Elections 2025 - Raise Our Voice Panel
Our Story
The Bangladeshi community in the North East of England began as a small group in the 1960s and 1970s. As more families settled and made this region their home, the needs of the community naturally grew.
Visionary individuals recognised the importance of promoting, educating, celebrating, and preserving Bangladeshi culture and heritage. This led to the creation of a dedicated Bangladeshi Centre to support our presence and identity.
In 1985, the Newcastle Bangladeshi Association (NBA) was founded as a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting and representing the Bangladeshi community living in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Elections 2025 – Raise Our Voice Panel
NBA leadership changes every three years to ensure fair representation for the entire community. The next election will take place on 31st August 2025, and we are proud to stand as the Raise Our Voice Panel.

Fair, Transparent, Inclusive NBA
Acknowledging Our Journey
Our Vision
Our Commitments
The Future of NBA
We envision a modern, inclusive, and responsive NBA that truly reflects our community. We will invest in facilities, create space for young people to lead and participate, support women's involvement at every level, and provide programs for our elderly that respect their contribution and meet their needs.
Mosque Management
Our mosque is the heart of our community. We will begin Islamic classes for all ages, appoint an Imam fluent in both Bangla and English, and form a dedicated working group to oversee donations, cleanliness, and maintenance. All actions will be transparent and accountable.
Grow Membership
Our strength is in numbers and unity. We'll launch community-wide campaigns to increase membership, making it easier, more attractive, and meaningful. Together, we'll build a stronger, more active organisation.
Finish What Was Started
Too many promises go unfulfilled — we will change that. Our team will complete unfinished projects from the previous committee, from renovations to community services. It's about responsibility, accountability and delivering on your expectations.
Sustainable Funding
We will implement well-structured fundraising initiatives and seek financial support to ensure successful delivery and long-term sustainability. We aim to establish weekly activities for all within 3 months of election.
Affordable Hall Hire
We will ensure our community centre is accessible and affordable for everyone. NBA members will enjoy exclusive benefits like discounts and priority bookings — keeping our centre active, inclusive, and open to all.
Constitutional Reform
Term Limits
Leadership must be shared and renewed. No one will serve more than two terms in key roles like Chairman or General Secretary. This ensures fresh ideas, prevents stagnation, and promotes healthy leadership rotation.
Fair Membership
We believe in fairness for all — no bias, no favouritism. An independent team will oversee membership verification before each election to ensure every member is fairly verified and eligible. Everyone gets an equal chance to participate.
Election Transparency & Honesty
We're committed to fair, open, and trusted elections. An independent election commission will run the process — free from pressure or bias. Your vote, voice, and right to choose will always be protected.
📣 Our Pledge
We stand for unity over division, service over position, and principles over politics. The NBA should belong to every Bangladeshi resident of Newcastle, not just a few. Together, we can protect what's been built, correct what's been broken, and create a fairer, stronger future.
