Serving Our Community Since 1985

We are Shurjo Panel

The Newcastle Bangladeshi Association (NBA) was established in 1985 as a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting and representing the Bangladeshi community living in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Every three years, the community leadership changes for better representation. The next election is on 31st August, and we are participating under the name Shurjo Panel.

Our mission is to unite, empower, and uplift our community through events, services, and cultural initiatives.

This association belongs to all Bangladeshi people in Newcastle. It must remain inclusive, transparent, and free from control by any single group or team.

Our Manifesto

Building a stronger, more inclusive, and transparent Newcastle Bangladeshi Association for our community's future

Term Limits

We believe that leadership must be shared and renewed regularly to keep our organisation dynamic and responsive. To uphold this principle, no individual will be allowed to serve more than two terms in any key leadership position, such as the Chairman or General Secretary. This ensures that our leadership remains accountable and that new voices and fresh ideas continuously emerge.

Fair Membership

Every member of our organisation should feel equally valued, respected, and treated fairly. We will set up an independent membership verification body that will operate transparently and ensure that every member is properly registered and eligible before any election. Everyone will have the same right to participate, regardless of personal relationships or opinions.

Election Transparency

Democratic processes only work when people believe in them. We are committed to ensuring that all elections within our organisation are clear, open, and conducted with integrity. We will assign election duties to an independent election commission, free from influence or pressure. We will protect your vote, your voice, and your right to choose your leaders.

Grow Membership

Our strength comes from our members. A larger, more active membership means a stronger and more united organisation. We will launch campaigns to increase membership by reaching out to all parts of our community, including those who may not have been involved before. We will make it easier to join, more attractive to participate, and more meaningful to be a member.

Smart Communication

In a world where misinformation spreads quickly, clear and secure communication is more important than ever. We are committed to providing timely, accurate, and confidential updates directly to our members through private channels. Whether it's about meetings, events, decisions, or important news, our members will always stay informed in a respectful and confidential way.

Finish What Was Started

Too many times, promises are made but not fulfilled. We will change that. Our team is committed to completing the projects and initiatives that were started by the previous committee but left unfinished. Whether it's community services, renovation plans, or new programs – we will not let good work go to waste. It's about taking responsibility.

Mosque Management

Our mosque is the spiritual heart of our community. We will establish a dedicated working group to oversee all aspects of mosque affairs, including the collection and use of donations, cleanliness, maintenance, and support for Islamic education for children. This group will act responsibly and transparently, reporting back to the community regularly.

The Future of NBA

We have a vision for a modern, inclusive, and responsive Newcastle Bangladeshi Association. We will invest in facilities, launch youth-focused initiatives, listen to real community concerns, and ensure our services are up to date and meaningful. The NBA Centre will be modernised and upgraded, becoming a true home for our community's future.

Affordable Hall Hire

Access to our community centre should never be restricted by cost. We promise to offer reasonable and affordable prices for hiring the community hall for all kinds of events. NBA members will receive additional benefits, such as discounts or priority bookings, as a reward for their ongoing support. This ensures the centre is active, vibrant, and open to all.
